Out of the Box 128gb Batocera Sinden Light Gun Build from Retro Lizard

by Arcade Man

@RetroRalph is back with another great video on the out of the box 128gb Batocera Sinden light gun build. Video is great walk through on how to get started and set up the pc build.

Sinden Light Gun Made Easy!

Welcome back to the channel! In our last video, we explored the Retro shooter, a plug-and-play light gun solution. The response was fantastic, but there was one comment that caught my attention. A viewer mentioned that they had a Sinden light gun but found it challenging to set up, often encountering issues with updates and troubleshooting. It seems many others shared similar experiences, agreeing that these light guns require some technical know-how to work with emulators like MAME.

Introducing a Plug-and-Play Solution

In response to these challenges, I set out to find a more user-friendly option. And guess what? I stumbled upon a Batocera image that claimed to be a plug-and-play solution! In this video, we’ll take a closer look at this image and determine if it truly lives up to its promise of being hassle-free with Sinden light guns. Moreover, I’ll walk you through the steps of building your own system using the same components I did.

Testing the Plug-and-Play Image

After burning the image to an M.2 drive and setting up the Sinden light gun on a B-link PC, we booted it up with high hopes. Lo and behold, the image automatically recognized the light gun and displayed a white border for easy tracking. So far, so good! This image also supports other light guns like Gun for IR, although I didn’t have access to one during testing.

Gameplay Experience with Sinden Light Gun

Now it’s time to test some games! The image came pre-configured with various games, and I decided to try Time Crisis first. The tracking with the Sinden light gun was impressive, and I could move my crosshairs freely without any issues. The setup even emulated coin input for the games with a simple button press.

Next, we tried other games like Area 51 and Operation Wolf, both of which worked well. Some games, like Jurassic Park, had minor sensitivity issues, but overall, the experience was enjoyable.

Customizing the Image

The Batocera image is not just a simple plug-and-play setup; it also offers several customization options. You can adjust aspect ratios, use shaders, connect to Wi-Fi, and much more. However, be cautious with calibration if you feel the tracking isn’t accurate, as it might be related to lighting or other factors in your room.

DIY Build with Batocera Image

If you’re interested in building your own system using the Batocera image, it’s quite straightforward. Download the image, burn it to your desired drive, and replace your current boot drive with it. Remember, the experience might vary depending on your hardware, so it’s essential to test it out.

Final Thoughts and Upcoming Events

Overall, the Batocera image proves to be a good attempt at making the Sinden light gun more accessible and user-friendly. While it might not be flawless, it can significantly reduce the setup time and let you focus on playing your favorite light gun games!

As we conclude, I’d like to mention the Southern Fried Gaming Expo, where we’ll be premiering the arcade bar documentary, Token Taverns. If you’re in the area, consider attending and showing your support!
